Looking for a refreshing summer drink that actually supports your body?
This basil and mint lemonade is more than just delicious—it’s an Ayurvedic-inspired tonic that helps you stay cool, calm, and hydrated through the heat of summer.
Why This Lemonade is Perfect for Summer (The Ayurvedic Angle)
In Ayurveda, summer is the season of pitta dosha, which brings heat, intensity, and sharpness. When pitta is in excess, we feel overheated, irritable, or inflamed. To stay balanced, Ayurveda recommends foods and drinks that are:
Cooling
Hydrating
Sattvic (pure, clear, and calming)

This lemonade hits all three. The mint and basil cool the body and calm the mind, while fresh lemon juice gently supports digestion. You can sweeten it naturally and dilute it to your taste throughout the day.
🍃 Ingredients (Makes up to 64 oz when diluted):
1 cup fresh herbs (any mix of mint and basil)
½ cup fresh lemon juice (about 2–3 lemons)
24 oz filtered water
Sweetener to taste: I like raw honey, but maple syrup or coconut sugar work great too
Extra water or seltzer for dilution
Pro Tip: Try Thai basil for a slightly spicier flavor—it’s the one with purple flowers!
Directions:
In a high-speed blender, combine the mint, basil, lemon juice, sweetener, and 24 oz of water.
Blend until smooth.
Strain through a fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag into a large pitcher.
Taste and adjust. Dilute with still or sparkling water to your liking.
Serve over ice or chill in the fridge. Garnish with a basil or mint sprig for an extra-refreshing touch.
Ayurvedic Benefits:
Mint & basil calm pitta dosha and soothe the nervous system
Lemon supports agni (digestive fire) without overheating
Honey or natural sweeteners nourish without spiking energy
Hydration keeps skin, joints, and mood balanced in hot weather
When to Enjoy:
After morning movement
With lunch or afternoon snack
During work breaks to stay focused and cool
This is one of my favorite ways to bring Ayurveda into the everyday—no weird ingredients, just herbs, citrus, and intention. Try a batch this week and let me know how it feels in your body.
